2017 Young Leaders Summit

Tuesday 18th April to Friday 21st April

held at Penrhos College,Thelma St, Como

We have just finished another successful camp at Penrhos College. Thanks to the team at Jojara, everyone has gone home with new skills for the future and insights about themselves.

Open to all year 11 Students in Western Australia, with applications made through the school.

The camp is a 4 day residential leadership development programme, conducted by Jojara and Associates, Margaret River, a team well established in developmental learning, and who have been associated with the Young Leaders programme for over 10 years.  It is greatly subsidised by the fundraising efforts of the Amanda Young Foundation staff and volunteers.

Letter from Robyn a happy 2015 participant.......

Early this week Georgia McAlpine and myself put together a small powerpoint presentation about the Amanda Young Foundation and the 2015 Leadership Summit that we went on. We both spoke to our whole year group, not only raising awareness about the disease but also sharing are experiences from the camp. Whilst putting together the powerpoint I was able to reflect back to April when the leadership camp was run and realised how the camp truly impacted me. I learnt so much during that week about not only leadership but also myself. I just wanted to say how thankful I am for being apart of this years camp. You have really helped me to grow.

After our speech we handed out the water bottles and pamphlets to the girls. I was so happy with how well everyone responded to the talk. And at recess and lunch it is so amazing to see all the year 11 girls carrying around their own Amanda Young Foundation water bottles. Sometime next term Georgia and I will be running a fundraiser and hopefully after the talk this week, the girls will be inspired to make a contribution.

Thank you again for everything you have done to inspire me and others to make a difference. I have so many wonderful memories from the leadership camp, which I will  cherish forever.

Ellen, one of our 2013 participants writes ..........

In the Term 1 school holidays, thanks to the Amanda Young Foundation, I had a life changing experience.  As a participant in the Foundation’s Eco-Health  Young Leader’s Summit for 2013, I experienced four amazing days living in at Penrhos College with a great group of other Year 11s.

The Foundation’s brilliant program is aimed at developing leadership and promoting a healthy living environment.  Mike from Jojara did a terrific job  coordinating the program and arranging team building and leadership activities, while guest speakers gave insightful presentations on meningococcal  disease, cyber danger and the environment.

I really enjoyed learning about different personality types, which will help me understand myself and others better.  The summit made me realise that  everyone has the potential to make a positive difference to the lives of others and inspired me to become more proactive with community service.

Thank you so much to Lorraine and Barry Young, Mike from Jojara and all at the Amanda Young Foundation for providing young people with such an  inspiring, motivational and unique experience!  I haven’t hesitated to recommend the summit to the Year 9 and 10s at my school, Presbyterian Ladies’  College.
